Northstar Commuter Rail

The year of the train is here!  

Northstar will begin operation later this year, with stations in Minneapolis, Fridley, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Elk River, and Big Lake.  Traveling the 40-mile route between Big Lake and the new Twins Stadium in downtown Minneapolis will take about 45 minutes. 

The trains will carry the equivalent of one-and-a-half lanes of traffic at peak periods and will generate an estimated $4.5 billion in economic development along the entire Northstar corridor. Service will operate during rush hours, Monday through Friday, plus three round trips on weekend days and some special event trains.

Expect to see the trains making practice runs this summer as they prepare for launch in November!
