Anoka County Election Night is a Winner

Before the clock even hit 10 p.m., Anoka County’s Elections Office was wrapping up the 2007 voting process with 100 percent of the precincts reporting. “We’re very happy to report there were very few problems, and Anoka County was the first county in the state to send results to the Secretary of State’s Office for statewide reporting,” said Anoka County Elections Manager Rachel Smith.

Anoka County Elections oversaw the ballot questions for Anoka-Hennepin Independent School District #11, as well as the school district’s election of board members. “This was a very important vote for the school district and its residents, and they trusted Anoka County to get the job done right. We’re proud to have delivered on the promise,” said Anoka County Commissioner Dan Erhart, whose district includes part of the Anoka-Hennepin school district.

The Anoka County Elections Office spent months preparing for election night; planning and testing the process to ensure election night would run smoothly. The tests included running sample data through the polling locations and testing the phone transmission system. “In addition to the technical aspects of an election, it’s crucial to remember the people who make it happen,” said Smith. “Without the election judges’ commitment to early election night results, in conjunction with the commitment of county employees involved in the process, we could not make this possible.”

Results were updated every 15 minutes and were immediately available on Anoka County’s Web site, www.AnokaCounty.us.
