ProQuest, one of Minnesota’s
most well-respected database vendors, has selected Jim Hendricks,
Reference Supervisor at Anoka County Library, as one of the
inaugural members of the ProQuest Public Library Board. This
is an honor normally given to librarians from much larger systems.
The committee will meet during the national Public Library
Association Conference in the Twin Cities in March of 2008 but will
conduct most of its business online.
“The purpose of this new board is to provide a knowledgeable
forum for ProQuest to test publishing ideas; to learn first-hand
about library issues, problems, and trends; and to discover ways in
which to better serve public libraries,” said Marlene Moulton
Janssen, Director of the Anoka County Library system.
“ProQuest’s recognition of Jim Hendricks, and the Anoka County
Library system acknowledges the county’s ongoing commitment to
providing residents with the best access to information available,”
said Anoka County Commissioner Jim Kordiak, who serves as the
board’s library liaison. “It will also allow Jim an
opportunity to represent the needs of medium and smaller libraries
with a major public library vendor. Jim, who is also the
co-chair of the E-resources team for the metro’s regional library
(MELSA), will bring years of experience and dedication to customer
service to the board.”
ProQuest is a leader in the collection, organization, and
publishing of information and provides global access to one of the
largest online content repositories in the world. The
subscription-based service results in more than 2.5 million page
views per day.
The Anoka County Library system provides free access to several
ProQuest products including the Ancestry Library Edition,
Historical New York Times, and Newsstand Complete.
