SENIORS CAN GET HEALTHCARE DIRECTIVES DONE AT EXPO APRIL 12
Senior citizens can get healthcare directives done by
attorneys at the tenth annual Anoka County Senior Expo Sat., April
12, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 14501
Nowthen Blvd, Ramsey. The event is free for senior citizens and
their families. The theme is “Celebrate Healthy Living.”
The county is pleased to offer new
assistance with healthcare directives, according to Anoka County
Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah, chair of the county’s human services
committee.
“Most Americans have not exercised their right to create an
advance directive to guide their healthcare in the event that they
cannot speak for themselves, in the future,” said Commissioner
Sivarajah.
Making future healthcare decisions includes much more than
deciding what care they would or would not want, Sivarajah
explained. It starts with clarifying values, identifying care
preferences, and selecting an agent to make healthcare decisions on
their behalf if they are unable to speak for themselves.
As in past years, the Expo will feature free blood pressure
checks and mini-massages, along with numerous resource booths
provided by agencies who serve seniors. Entertainment and free
pancakes draw people from all over the county.
There is ample parking and handicapped accessibility.
The event is sponsored by the Alliance for a Violence Free
Anoka County and Anoka County Human Services. For more information,
call Cindy at 763-422-6972 or Mary at 763-323-6042.
