MENTAL HEALTH TRAININGS OFFERED FOR PROFESSIONALS SERVING YOUNG
ANOKA COUNTY CHILDREN
Two mental health trainings will be offered in May
to help professionals who work with young Anoka County children and
their families.
Professionals serving Anoka County children will
be supported through these trainings by strengthening their
abilities to use available tools and community networks, according
to Anoka County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah, co-chair of the Anoka
County Children and Family Council, a sponsoring agency for the
trainings.
“Our goal is to help
professionals successfully assist families with early intervention,
diagnosis and treatment, which ultimately will result in better
outcomes” Commissioner Sivarajah said.
The first training, Building Strong Foundations,
will be held May 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Greenhaven Golf Course
in Anoka. Early childhood professionals and others who participate
in the care of young children and their families are invited to
attend. The registration fee is $25.00. Participants will study:

Infant mental health and culture
·
Attachment relationships
·
Strengths and challenges
·
Case studies
·
Principles of Early Childhood Assessment and
Diagnosis
·
Improving outcomes for children using infant
mental health strategies
A second, two-day training,
Why Diagnose Very Young Children, will be held May 15 and 16,
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, at Greenhaven Golf Course in Anoka.
This training is designed for mental health professionals working
within the infant-family field that have experience with the
diagnostic procedures using DSMIV or ICD1- criteria. The
registration fee is $50.00. Training topics will include:

Creating an Environment for Learning
·
Introduction to Infant Mental Health and policy
updates
·
Screening, Diagnostic Process and Assessment
·
Introduction to the DC: 0-3R
·
Group practice, diagnosis and treatment
·
Reimbursement process using the Florida
Crosswalk
Trainers for the events are
Terrie Rose, Ph.D., L.P., National DC: 0-3R Trainer and Antonia
Wilcoxin, M.I.M., Mental Health Consultant and Project Coordinator
for the Great Start Minnesota/ABCD II project at the Minnesota
Department of Human Services-Children’s Mental Health Division.
Participants will receive books,
certificates of attendance and/or continuing education credits.
The trainings are provided by
the Anoka County Children and Family Council and the Mental Wellness
Campaign for Anoka County. Their goal is to help build a
comprehensive support system for families. The Minnesota Department
of Human Services-Children’s Mental Health and the Minnesota
Department of Health are collaborating with these organizations to
support professionals by presenting information and assisting with
materials.
